FAQ

Common questions

Is there really a free plan?

Yes, and it's free forever, no card required. Solo devs get one project, one seat, and the same unlimited storage and bandwidth as every paid plan. Link a folder, make your first commit, and keep working with no trial clock ticking. Upgrade to Indie or Studio when you need more than one project or want to add teammates.

What counts as a user?

A user is anyone with access to at least one project in your organization. You only pay for active members. No wasted seats.

How do storage and bandwidth work?

Both are unlimited on every plan, free included. Push as many multi-gigabyte Unreal Engine assets as your project needs, and pull builds as often as your team wants. No quotas, no metering, no overage charges. You can monitor your usage from the web dashboard. Unlimited covers everything your game projects need; the fair use policy exists only to stop use that has nothing to do with game development.

What if it doesn't work out?

Every new subscription comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Move a real project onto USourceControl, and if it isn't right for your team, email us within 30 days of your first payment. We refund it in full, no questions asked, and you keep a 30-day window to export everything. Details in the refund policy.

How many projects can I create?

Free includes one project. Indie, Studio, and Enterprise all include unlimited projects, with unlimited storage and bandwidth on every one of them. Upgrade the moment you need a second project.

What's the difference between Indie and Studio?

Projects, plugins, storage, bandwidth, and commits are all unlimited on both. Studio adds audit logs, priority support, a second authorized device per seat so you can work from a desktop and a laptop, and dedicated support. Indie is for teams and companies earning under $100,000 USD a year; Studio has no revenue limit.

Who can use the Indie plan?

Indie is for teams and companies earning under $100,000 USD a year, the same idea as Unreal Engine's own royalty threshold. You confirm your eligibility at checkout. Once you pass $100,000, move up to Studio, which has no revenue limit and adds audit logs, priority support, and dedicated support.

What is a plugin?

A plugin is a project you can mount into your other projects, so a shared character rig, material library, or gameplay module lives in one place and flows out to everything that uses it. Plugins are a paid feature separate from your project count: Free doesn't include them, and every paid plan (Indie and Studio) includes unlimited plugins.

Can I switch plans at any time?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades apply at the end of your current billing cycle, so you keep access to everything until then.

How does annual billing work?

Pay upfront for the year and receive two months free. Toggle the billing switch above to see annual pricing.

How does this compare to Perforce or Git?

Perforce requires dedicated servers, per-seat licenses, and ongoing administration. Git wasn't designed for large binary assets. USourceControl is a cloud source control service built for Unreal Engine projects. We run the infrastructure, so there's nothing for you to set up or maintain.

Is the full desktop app included on every plan?

Yes, on every plan. Every plan gets the full desktop app experience on Windows, with no feature gating, including packaging your game and publishing it to Steam, the Epic Games Store, and itch.io. The desktop app source code and the macOS and Linux builds are available to Enterprise customers.

Can I package and publish my game from USourceControl?

Yes, and it's on every plan, Free included. The desktop app packages your Unreal project with the engine you already have, stamps the version into the build, and uploads it to Steam, the Epic Games Store, or itch.io. Turn on auto-publish and a successful build sends itself. It stops where the stores stop it: Steam and Epic both keep the final promotion to players as an action in their own portals, so we report a build as uploaded, never as live. Full detail on packaging and publishing.

Why isn't packaging or publishing a paid feature?

Because it runs on your hardware. Builds are packaged by your own Unreal install on your own machine, and uploads go straight from your computer to your store account with credentials that never reach us. There is nothing for us to meter, so there is nothing to charge for. The Forge build runner is on every plan for the same reason.

Do you see my Steam or Epic credentials?

No. Every store key, secret, and password is encrypted by your operating system's keychain and stays on your machine. They are never sent to our servers, never written into a command line where another process could read them, and never readable back out of the app once set. If your machine cannot encrypt them, we refuse to store them rather than storing them weakly.

Is my project safe in the cloud?

Every file is integrity-verified on upload and download, all transfers are encrypted in transit, and access is gated by org roles and per-project membership. We don't sell your files, advertise against them, or train any model on them; we access file contents only to operate the service or when you ask us for support, and that access is limited and logged. Enterprise customers get the desktop app source code so you can audit exactly how your data is handled.
