Fair Use Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

The short version

  • Unlimited storage and bandwidth cover everything your Unreal projects need. No quotas, no metering, no overage bills.
  • Fair use exists only to stop use that has nothing to do with game development, like personal media backups or public content distribution.
  • If your usage ever raises a question, we email you first. We never silently delete, throttle, or lock your files.

1. Why this policy exists

Every USourceControl plan includes unlimited storage and bandwidth. We can keep that promise because our customers use the Service for what it was built for: versioning and syncing Unreal Engine projects. This policy draws the line between that use, which is always welcome at any scale, and the rare cases that would make the promise unsustainable for everyone else.

If you are building a game, you will never hit this policy. That is the point of it.

2. What unlimited covers

Everything that belongs to your game projects, at whatever size they reach:

  • Unreal Engine content: .uasset, .umap, Blueprints, plugins, config, and project files
  • Source art and audio: PSD, FBX, substance files, textures, video, and sound at full resolution
  • Packaged builds, release candidates, and archives of them
  • Design documents, references, and everything else your team versions alongside the project
  • Every version of every file, forever, with your whole team syncing as often as it wants

Multi-hundred-gigabyte projects, one-file-per-actor setups with millions of files, and daily full-team syncs are all normal use. You do not need to ask permission to be big.

3. What the Service is not

USourceControl is a cloud source control service for game development. It is not:

  • A general-purpose backup or archival service for data unrelated to your game projects (personal photo or media libraries, unrelated company file shares, machine images)
  • A content delivery network. Distributing builds, patches, or assets to your players or the public through USourceControl download links is not fair use; it is built for your team
  • A storage backend to resell. Offering USourceControl storage or bandwidth to third parties as your own service is not permitted
  • A target for automation that serves no development purpose, such as scripted upload and download loops designed to consume bandwidth

The Terms of Service additionally prohibit illegal content, malware, and content you do not have the right to store, regardless of volume.

4. How we handle fair use questions

If usage on your account looks like it falls outside this policy, here is exactly what happens:

  • We email your organization owner first, explain what we are seeing, and ask about it. In our experience this resolves almost everything.
  • If the use really is outside fair use and continues after we have talked, we may restrict new uploads or downloads for the affected project until it is resolved.
  • We never delete files, never restrict access to files you have already uploaded, and never suspend an account without prior contact. If we part ways, the 30-day export window from the Terms of Service always applies.

5. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will announce material changes the same way we announce changes to the Terms of Service: by email or an in-app notice. We will never use a policy change to retroactively act against usage that was fair when it happened.

6. Questions

Not sure whether your use case fits? Ask us before you commit to anything: support@usourcecontrol.com. If you are planning something unusually large or unusual in shape, we would genuinely like to hear about it.
